Promethius

WOW, what can I say, absolutely fantastic, should have gotten around to saying something sooner, but no time. I've seen it twice and I might see it again. Ridley Scott comes through as I knew he would.

Star Wars The Old Republic.

What happened ?  Never have I seen a game colapse so quickly; and so much inticipation leading up to the launch, unbelieveable. I logged on tonight with my Level 32 Merc (perhaps for the last time) looking to Queue solo for an hour or two just to kick some ass and kill some time... Not one match, not even one in almost 2 hours, what a disappointment. There were like only 40 people playing, 40 people in the whole universe, I felt like Will Smith only without zombies. I'm on the Tarro Blood Server, and a great server it was, I remember the week of the launch and how excited I was to get early access. The lag was so bad that I actually went out and spent $1700.00 on a new computer all in antipation of playing this new MMOG for many yeas to come. ...well it's not gonna happen now... Our glorous guild that once numbered close to 100 has just disbanded and our dreams of one day controling the Universe lie in ruins. I know that Diablo 3 took some business from SWTOR but I doubt you can blame it completely for this disaster... thing is, it ain't a half bad game, granted I don't think it broke any new ground, but it was a good game none the less. I feel bad for the people at BioWare and LucasArts many of which are about to get shit-canned, thats gotta suck. Here's hoping that they find a way to fix whats broke...anyway I'm really disappointed,   really looking forward to many years of excitment, not that I think it's totally doomed, it's not, but it certainly isn't going to be all that we hoped...Everquest here I come...

Wizard World Toronto Comic Con 2012

This weekend was the Wizard World Comic Con, held for the first time at the Toronto Convention Centre North Building. The last couple of years this event has been held at the Direct Energy Centre and I think moving it to the Convention Centre was a good idea as it's a bit more assessable. Wizard World is smaller Con that the famed Fan Expo, but the organizers so far have done a great job growing this event and it's been getting bigger and bigger each year. However, I believe this year was the exception. The crowd was noticeably smaller this time round, also instead of a three day event, they cut to two day, I'm not a big fan of that decision.
Wizard World had some decent actors at the this year. The line-up included Jeri Ryan, Paul Wesley, Scott Bakula, Dean Stockwell plus a few other I didn't recognize. Over-all though, I think they definitely need to add more personalities and the ones they do have should have spent more time signing. I saw Scott Bakula all of two minutes all weekend, not sure were he was.
Some great costumes this weekend, I love seeing all the sights, each year more and more people show up and this show aint just for geeks anymore.

Prometheus - Oficial Trailer

OK, if you can't get excited over this then you're probably dead. This can't hit the theaters soon enough.

Fan Expo 2011 - Toronto

Gary Kurtz signs my Star Wars Poster, this is the guy I was there to see. Gary produced not only Star Wars, but also the Empire Strikes Back.

Eliza Dushku signs some autographs at this years Fan Expo, she was actually supposed to be at last years event but had to bow out at the last minute.

Ahh the Fan Expo, it aint just for geeks anymore, there were quite a few girls walkin around with very little clothing, and ya gotta luv that.

Ghostbusters fans at the Fan Expo, this costuming group is getting more and more popular every year.

Willian Shatner signs some autographs at the Fan Expo. Crazy Bill was chargin $80.00 a shot, but I guess the Trekkie's didn't mind as they were lining up in droves.

Of cours my favorite group the 501st Legion was there in full force, approximately 70 members if I'm not mistake. These costumes are worth thousands of dollars and are all hand made.

Imperial Biker Scouts stand guard at the Lucasfilm booth helping promote the release of Star Wars on Blue ray, which became available on September 16. These guys always draw a bit crowd at the Fan Expo.

You'll never see so many different costumes in one place at one time as you will at the Fan Expo. What ever you're into, you'll find it at this event. It's also a great opportunity to take some really fantastic photographs as well. Of all the shots I took this weekend I think this is my favorite.

Wel they've started announcing the guest list for the 2012 Fan Expo so I though it would be a good idea to revisit some of the pics I took at last years event. It was a fantastic show they put on last year and they solved the overcrowding problems that plagued the 2010 event. Among the guest that made an appearance in 2011 were Katee Sackhoff, William Shatner, Larry Hagmen, Michael Biehn, Martin Landau, Anthony Daniels and Nichelle Nichols to name just a few. Looking forward to this years.

Dark Shadows 2012

Just saw a trailer for DARK SHADOWS, an adaptation of Dan Curtis' television series from the late 60s/early 70s, it hits theaters May 11... I'm a big fan of the redux TV series, circa 1991, staring Ben Cross and Joanna Going. Unfortunately the show was killed after just 13 episodes, don't get me started on that one. Anyway, as per the preview, it looks like they've turned it into some kinda comedy staring Johnny Deppe, my first impression isn't good, I'm definitely in no hurry to see this one. I predict a Rotten Tomato's rateing of 35 percent ...and I think I'm being pretty generous there ...We'll soon see how close my prediction is.

The Uncanny X-Men # 161

My Comic Collection leaves alot to be desired, that said I'm going to show you it anyway. Not all of it mind you just the stuff that I don't catogorize as crap. What better place to start than the Xmen. My book aint perfect, a slight crease is visible in the lower left corner and a there's a couple of marks on the spine as you can see in the photo above.

Dungeons & Dragons - Castle Ravenoft

OK, after last weeks Convention I finally broke down. I've seen this game a number of times and always been able to fight the urge to fork out the cash, but not this time. Seventy bucks later plus tax, Ouch!!, it's mine. Ah well it just money right...No idea how to pay it, I'll start readin the instructions tonight. Surprisingly they aint very long. As an 80's nerd, I used to play alot of the real D&D back in the day. Nowadays as a nerd with a full time job and the occasional girlfreind (if you can belive it) there just no time for those ten hour long terniments. Hopefully this board game version of the classic roleplayer will fill that D&D void thats been needed filling for such a longass time. If not, if the game sucks, I'll write Wizards of the Coast a very strongly worded letter. Anyway, we gonna play it for the first time next week, I'll ley ya know how it goes.

2011 Zombie Walk

Last fall we had the 2011 Zombie walk in Toronto. Your truly went down for the day and while I was there I took a few shots. Nearly 6000 corpses writhed, weaved and lurched their way through the streets of Toronto feasting on those unlucky enough to be living. Me with my trusty Nikon found a nice perch on the top steps of a church along Queen St. West and managed to fire off a few shots. The walk lasted hours, Ive never seen so many zombies in my in my life...incidental the Zombie march started in Toronto and is now held in most major cities in the world. Chile had their annual Zombie walk (Saturday Oct. 15, 2011) and thousands show up to eat the flesh of the living that live in Santiago....It's cool to be dead...

Toronto Comicon - March 10 - 11

What better place to start than the Toronto Comicon held this weekend at the Toronto Convention Center. This has traditionally been one of the smaller events of the year, but no less cool than some of the bigger ones. This Con is put on by the same organizers that do the Toronto Fan Expo, and this year it started resembling the Fan Expo in many respects. Alot more vendors, bigger hall, more celebratees, and a marked increase in the crowd. It kicked off Friday night with a bash at the Tattoo Rock Parlour, a traditional hang for really cool people in Toronto. Tia Carrere (The Relic Hunter) and Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3, Blood Rayne) were there to help get things going...
